The Ghana Slave Castle
We visited this British Slave Castle on a TY trip to Ghana in west Africa in 2017.
It was a fascinating and very moving trip which gave us an insight into some of the darkest times in West African History. Below is one of 3 underground chambers were up to 1000 people were kept for up to one month while they waited for a boat to come and take them to the New World. They were kept in dark damp conditions often forced to sit and lie in their own fasces. When they finally boarded the ships to the new world over half of all slaves died on the voyage. |
